My artwork explores how I personally utilise escapism in response to real life stresses. For me, escapism takes the form of daydreaming about fictional spaces, often set in a historical narrative infused with fantastical elements. I channel this into my art by creating works whilst embodying a character: Breeze Skyfall. In this way, my artwork becomes a production of my own unique form of escapism, allowing me to express myself creatively while also delving deeper into the themes and ideas that inspire me.
House Skyfall, a distinguished family of Air Genasi (elemental) descent, is a prosperous and influential noble houses. Their illustrious history is intertwined with the crown, the head of house having held the seat of High Chancellor on the Royal Council for generations. As such, the name Skyfall carries significant weight due to its heavy association with the royal family. The Skyfall motto, "by the sky, we soar", reflects their heritage and unwavering determination to rise above all obstacles to achieve their goals.
The current Head of House is Storm Skyfall, a stern and resolute woman, who is fiercely committed on upholding the honour her family name holds. By her side is her devoted husband Squall, a charismatic socialite who's presence is well beloved in aristocratic circles.
Their twin sons, Gust and Gale, could not be more dissimilar. Gust, a reserved academic preferring to be left to his books or paintings, holds the position of secretary for the Adventurer's Guild. In vast contrast, Gale is boisterous and proud, much better suited to his role of Captain of the Royal Guard than his elder brother ever could be. The youngest of the Skyfalls, is Breeze.
Breeze is the ray of sunshine in the family. Free spirited with an adoration for exploration, she holds a particular fascination for mysteries and folklore. This interest was sparked by her close relationship with her elder brother, Gust, who would send her presents from his travels with the Adventurer's Guild. Her brother's tales of far off lands and ancient legends are what ignited Breeze's thirst for adventure. After Gale had insisted on training her in combat, she ventured into the wilds on her own, in search of experiencing first hand the folklores she had only read about in books.
On her travels, she discovered an injured owl-griffin who she nursed back to health. In doing so, she formed a bond with the creature, adopting him as her travel companion and bestowing him with the name Beezle.
